Metro West Housing Authority's Maplewood Clubhouse

We used a 4-3-5 concrete sandwich wall configuration for the exterior walls on the clubhouse.  That is 4" of exterior colored concrete, 3" of Dow XPS insulation, and 5" of interior colored concrete.  The walls are radiantly heated and cooled.

The Maplewood Clubhouse utilizes solar hot water for heating the concrete walls and floors in the winter months.

In the summer it uses night time radiant cooling coupled with an evaporative cooler that will cool the walls at night and allow the building to coast during the day with no cooling input.  Evaporative coolers are most efficient at night and therefore use less energy to create more cooling BTU's.  The cool is stored in the interior concrete layer of the exterior walls and will easily maintain a cool interior until the process is repeated the next night.

The Maplewood Clubhouse placed 8400 watts of photovoltaic panels on the roof and hopes to be close to a net zero energy consumer every year.
